Recording, consent, and disclosure
SideSense helps you by listening on your device. How you use that in a real conversation, and whether you disclose it, is your call. Here is how to do it responsibly.
How SideSense handles audio
SideSense captures your microphone and system audio on your own machine, only while a session is running, to produce a live transcript and answer drafts. It never joins the meeting as a bot or participant, and what is said is processed on-device and never uploaded to a SideSense server. You can read the full picture on the privacy page.
Consent is your responsibility
Laws about recording and transcribing a conversation differ from place to place. Some require every participant to consent; some require only one. Because SideSense runs on your device and under your control, meeting your local obligations is up to you, not us.
Coach and Assist, used honestly
Coach is practice: rehearse and score yourself before the real thing, where consent is never a question. Assist is live support on your side of the screen. We build SideSense for preparation and confidence, not deception, and we ask you to use it the same way. Be transparent with interviewers, students, and meeting participants when the situation calls for it.
Questions, answered.
Does SideSense record my call?
SideSense processes audio on your device to produce a live transcript and drafts while a session runs. You start and stop the session yourself, it never joins the call as a participant, and nothing is uploaded to a SideSense server. Whether you keep a recording is up to you.
Do I have to tell the other people?
That depends on where you and they are. Some places require everyone to consent to being recorded; others require only one party. When in doubt, tell people and get their agreement. It is the safe and respectful default.
Is this legal advice?
No. This is general guidance, not legal advice. Consent and recording laws vary by country and region, and you are responsible for following the ones that apply to you.
Prepare with confidence, use it with integrity.
SideSense is built for practice and support, not for deceiving anyone.
