Moving to a new PC and device slots

Your plan includes a set number of active devices. Here is how slots work, and how to move SideSense to a new machine without losing your place.

How device slots work

Each plan allows a certain number of active devices. When you sign in on a machine, it takes one slot. Higher tiers allow more slots, so you can run SideSense on, say, a laptop and a desktop. The exact count for each tier is on the pricing page.

Signing in on a device uses one slot
Paid plans allow more active devices
You can see and manage devices in your account

Move to a new machine

Install SideSense on the new PC and sign in with the same account. Your plan and license follow your account, so the new machine is ready right away. If you have session data you want to keep, export it from the old PC first (see exporting your data), since it is stored locally on each machine.

Your plan and license sync automatically
Bring session data across by exporting it first

Free a slot when you are at the limit

If you have reached your plan's device limit, open your account's device list and remove one you no longer use. That frees a slot immediately, and you can then sign in on the new machine. Retiring an old laptop? Remove it here so the slot is not left occupied.

FAQ

Questions, answered.

How many devices can I use?

It depends on your plan. The free SideSense Pro plan is single-device, and the paid plans allow more. The exact number per tier is on the pricing page.

I hit my device limit. What now?

Remove a device you no longer use from your account, which frees a slot, then sign in on the new machine. Nothing is lost: the license simply moves.

Do my sessions move to the new PC?

Your account and license sync, but your session data (transcripts, notes, question bank) lives on each machine, since we never held a copy of it. Export it from the old PC first if you want to bring it along.
